The I Have a Dream Foundation - Los Angeles announces today the retirement of its' executive director Wendy Free. Free joined I Have a Dreams executive office in 2003 and has served as the organization's leader for the last six years. During her tenure, I Have a Dream expanded and has launched two additional classes of "Dreamers" the current third and fourth graders at Daniel Freeman Elementary in Inglewood who will be awarded college scholarships upon high school graduation. Free retires effective June 1, 2010 and is looking forward to spending more time with her family.
Board member Zac Guevara will become interim Executive Director as the board completes a search for a permanent Executive Director of the Foundation. Guevara also serves on the Board of Directors for Para Los Nios and Self Help Graphics and MALDEF and recently retired as an Executive Vice President in investment management for Capital International, Inc.
The search for a new Executive Director will be lead by Board Member Brian McLaughlin, a partner with the venture capital firm GRP Partners.
The I Have a Dream Foundation - Los Angeles is a non-profit organization committed to helping underserved children become productive citizens through academic enhancement, mentoring, cultural enrichment and an assured opportunity for higher education. I Have a Dream has served almost one thousand needy children, offering college scholarships and much more since its creation in 1987.
