Dream Speaker Series
On a monthly basis from September through June, the “I Have a Dream” Foundation – Los Angeles (IHADLA) presents Dream Speakers to our various groups of students (“Dreamers”). Dream Speakers conduct a brief presentation about their own profession; perhaps tell stories about their career paths; speak about education and the importance of reading, writing, and other subjects; provide life lessons and words of advice, etc. If you want to volunteer for our at risk youth in Los Angeles, this is a great way to contribute.
During past presentations, some Dream Speakers have brought props, some have used a PowerPoint, some have distributed handouts, and some have used nothing but their words. There is no set format: we just seek an hour during which the kids will gain a little insight into life’s options and lessons. Regardless of the speaker’s subject, the kids always have lots of questions. If speakers want to discuss more than just their own career and education, potential topics can be discussed prior.
Each Dream Speaker session lasts about an hour or so and occurs between 2:30pm and 5:30pm during the IHADLA after-school program.
