Family Fun on the San Pedro Boat Cruise

Our third grade student Dreamers from Program 19 in Boyle Heights and their parents embarked on a boat cruise for an afternoon of family fun around San Pedro to view the Port of Los Angeles. The Dreamers and their family members enjoyed the sights and scenes that the Fiesta Harbor Boat Cruise in Ports O’ Call Village had to offer. The trip was kindly donated by Captain Tom. IHADLA previously set sail on a Fiesta Harbor Los Angeles Boat Cruise when recognizing our dedicated mentors and volunteers during our Mentor and Volunteer Appreciation Cruise.

Thank you, Captain Tom, for a day of family fun!

Thanks to Captain Tom, the Dreamers and their family members spent a wonderful Saturday on the water, giving them time to enjoy each other’s company and learn more about the Port of Los Angeles. This also gave the parents the opportunity to become more involved with IHADLA, as parent engagement is integral for the child’s overarching success and an important component of the organization. We were very excited to have our Dreamers out on the water with their family members, and we could tell that they were all very happy, too!

“I Have a Dream” Foundation – Los Angeles would like to thank Captain Tom and the Fiesta Harbor Boat Cruise business at Ports O’ Call Village for providing our Dreamers and their families with a really amazing experience. Expanding the children’s horizons and exposing them to a variety of fun, educational, and engaging activities is a number one priority at IHADLA, and the boat cruise is definitely a terrific example of this!

Fun Facts on the Port of Los Angeles

The trip also provided the opportunity to show the Dreamers more about where they live and the diversity of Los Angeles County. Did you know that the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro encompasses 7,500 acres of land and water along 43 miles of waterfront? Additionally, it features 27 passenger and cargo terminals, including automobile, breakbulk, container, dry and liquid bulk, multi-use, and warehouse facilities that handle billions of dollars’ worth of cargo each year! These impressive statistics and more can be found on the Port of Los Angeles website: PortOfLosangeles.org.
