CHAZNAE WALKER | Executive Director
Chaznae Walker is a proud native of South-Central Los Angeles and an esteemed alumna of Whittier College, Class of 2006, where she majored in Political Science and thrived as a collegiate basketball athlete. With a deep passion for education equity and community empowerment, Chaznae has dedicated 19 years to the “I Have A Dream” Foundation – Los Angeles (IHADLA), growing through the ranks from Program Coordinator to Director of Programs, and now serving in her second year as Executive Director.
Throughout her tenure, Chaznae has been instrumental in shaping the futures of Dreamer Scholars, overseeing programming that has led to an exceptional 98% high school graduation rate. As Executive Director, she has made it her mission to strengthen community ties and foster partnerships that enhance opportunities for the students and families IHADLA serves. Under her leadership, the organization secured a transformative $2 million pledge, enabling the launch of its first new cohort of Dreamer Scholars in eight years. This milestone marks the re-expansion of IHADLA into Pasadena, where a new class of first graders at James Madison Elementary School will embark on their journey toward higher education.
Chaznae’s leadership is rooted in her unwavering belief in the power of representation. She lives in the very community she serves, recognizing the significance of being a role model for the young boys and girls who see themselves in her journey. She views her work as a calling, one she embraces with gratitude and purpose. Beyond fundraising and strategic growth, she prioritizes fostering a culture of teamwork and collaboration within IHADLA, ensuring that every staff member is aligned in their mission to support Dreamer Scholars.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Chaznae cherishes time with her husband, Raymond, and their three beautiful children, Skylar, Madisyn, and Jaxson. She is a devoted sports enthusiast, drawing inspiration from her favorite player, Kobe Bryant, and holds a special connection to basketball, having met her husband on the court during her time at Whittier College. Whether cheering on her daughters at soccer games, supporting her son in swim classes, or guiding her eldest daughter’s rising modeling career, she approaches motherhood with the same dedication she brings to her work—wholeheartedly and with passion.
Amidst her busy schedule, Chaznae prioritizes self-care through hotel staycations, spa days, sports events, and kickboxing, embracing a well-rounded life that balances professional excellence with personal fulfillment. Chaznae is a testament to resilience, leadership, and the transformative power of education. She embodies the spirit of IHADLA, inspiring the next generation of Dreamer Scholars to dream big and achieve their fullest potential.
Her approach to leadership echoes the wisdom of one of her greatest inspirations: “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do.” – Kobe Bryant
